Ilya Freymanov proves newschool beats oldschool

Ilya Freymanov debuted on ONE on Prime Video 2 Xiong vs Lee III against ONE’s veteran, and Australia’s own, Martin Nguyen in the featherweight division, defeating him in the first round by TKO.

26 year old Russia’s Freymanov is a new prospect in ONE. He is currently on a 3 fight win streak, has 8 knockouts in his last 10 wins and now 6 first round finishes in his new 11-2-0 record.

The 33 year old Vietnamese-Australian has been vetted in the promotion. Fighting in it since 2014, Nguyen, is the first ever two-division champ, has 92% finish rate and the most finishes in ONE history with 13 of his last 14 wins coming by finish.

The fight

The two featherweights wasted no time meeting in the middle of the caged-circle and for the first 1:27 the fight was looking good on the feet for bother fighters.

Quickly in an exchange Freymanov catches Nguyen with a knee while he is leaning in after throwing a right-hand then drops him with a straight right punch.

The Russian quickly jumps on Nguyen with punches but it was the knees to the head that caused the referee to waive the fight off at 3:33 of the first round.

Conclusion

Ilya Freymanov was awarded the $50,000 bonus for his performace.
