2023 could be the first time we see a woman on the commentary desk in the UFC.
Laura Sanko, who is UFC & ESPN analyst and reporter, as well as provides commentary for fights in Legacy Fighting Alliance and on Dana Whites Contender Series might make her way to the big show.
Speaking with Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie, Laura was happy as always, but seemed dissappointed with not fulfilling all of her 2022 goals.
She is pushing to do commentary on UFC Fight Nights with her compadres, Dominick Cruz, Paul Felder, Daniel Cormier, Michael Biping, Brendan Fitzgerald and Jon Anik.
This year Dana White, President of the UFC came out and stated how Sanko was bugging him to make move from her reporting position to be able to do commentary, gave her a shot on Dana White Contender Series, but still an analyst and reporter.
Whether, you are a new fan, or an old fan, you can see that she fits that role just as good as any commentator, past and present. Getting a great reception from fighters and fans.
Sanko, who has only had 1 professional MMA fight in Invicta back in 2013 (winning by RNC), and 5 amateur fights losing only 1 by TKO in 2010, might feel she has gotten a little push back because of her inexperience in the octagon stating,
“when you put yourself in a lane that is unique and you sort of put yourself out there, there are a lot of people that want to criticize that and say negative things about it, but when it is no longer weird or out of the norm, that no longer happens, and thats my goal“
Regardless what people feel about her love and devotion for the sport, she has been training in martial arts since a kid (Karate), even attaining her black belt.
Sanko on the commentary desk would mark a great history in the UFC as the first female commentator. Keep in mind DWCS fights are not technically IN the UFC, but the mark before it, or where fighters display their talent to be able to be signed to it.
She left of hinting at 2023 and her commentary role saying,
“I feel really confident about next year”.
