Colby Covington cleared to fight with ongoing court case

Dana White spoke to the press last night after the DWCS fights. He was asked about Gilbert Burns vs. Jorge Masvidal, an upcoming fight in the welterweight division that was supposedly verbally agreed to between the two, as Burns stated in an interview. Masvidal quickly came out and tweeted this.

Letting everyone know that he has not said a word about the match, or agreed to anything. Dana further went on to state how this is a match he likes and that he would be interested in making at a further date this year.

Dana was further asked about Colby Covington another welterweight fighter who has had a run-in that ultimately resulted in a legal case against another fighter, Jorge Masvidal in March of this year. Masvidal, was seen running up from behind and sucker punching Colby outside a restaurant in Miami. Colby had his tooth knocked out and damage done to his Rollex. This event took place after Colby beat Jorge via decision for their bout at UFC 272. Masvidal is accused of aggravated battery and criminal mischief.

Results of the assault

A reporter then asked if Colby was allowed to fight with his pending case. Dana stated , he [Colby] is ready to fight and we’re making plans for him here soon“, and that they are working on something for him at the moment.
