Joanderson “Tubarão” Brito (-380) vs Lucas Alexander (+310) was not the fight that was going to be for the casual fan but one to put the featherweight division on notice. Two Brazilians, and predominatly strikers, that are new on the UFC roster.
Brito (13-3-1) came in from the Conender Series in 2021 and Alexander (7-3) joined the roster this year (2022), debuing this evening on the prelims of Grasso vs. Araujo.
Tubarão who doesn’t know any other way of fighting than moving forward with constant pressure was heavy on Alexander looking for the right-hand.
Alexander missed with a head-kick and in the midst, intelligently, Brito shoots and immediately goes to a “backpack” (standing rear triangle) but doesn’t get it and decides to slam his opponent to the canvas. Alexander scrambled back up but not strong enough as Brito slammed him back to the canvas.
Getting back up, Brito secured the standing rear triangle and brought him to the canvas submitting Alexander.
Brito getting a little celebratory dance off in the ring as he was content with his first round victory but quickly getting back to business calling out # 11 ranked Dan Ige in his post-fight interview. Now 14-3-1.
