With all this hoopla of what Kamaru Usman will do now after his second loss in a row, this time, a close decision to, “And Still” Leon Edwards (because of eye poke) in a failed attempt to snatch his belt back.
Many have suggested that “he is finished”, “he is 35, past his prime”, “he has already done enough to cement his career”. But Usman post fight, insisted, “I’m not done, I’ll see em’ again”. Meaning he hopes to see “Rocky” for a fourth match.
And with all the rising contenders like Shavkat Rakhmanov, Gilbert Burns, and Belal Muhammad waiting in the wings, it just doesn’t seem likely.
But the beloved MMA Guru has come up with a great next move for him that we also co-sign.
Guru suggests that Usman move up to middleweight (185lbs) and try his shot in a bigger division
As you can see he is not that much smaller than Jan Blachowicz (former champ) who fights at Light Heavyweight (205lbs).
I 100% agree that this is a plausible plan, not only one that will could revive his career, but be one the fans could get behind
Guru also suggest that his first fight should be against, South African rising contender Dricus Du Plesis. Suggesting the UFC should do Fight Night South Africa.
This is all completely possible to garner interest in the African audience with the wide array of African fighters they have from, Manel “Star Boy” Kape, Cameron Saaimon, Themba Gorimbo, Israel Adesanya, Sodiq Yussuf, Abdul Razak Alhassan, David Onama and so many more.
Kamaru and Dricus have been going at eachother as of late regarding Dricus being a real “African” or not.
Du Plesis said at his last press conference, “Did the belt ever go to Africa, as far as I know it came to America and New Zealand. I’m gonna take a belt to Africa, I’m the African fighter in the UFC. Myself and Cameron (Saaimon). We breath the African air, we wake up in Africa everyday, we train in Africa, we African born and African raised”.
Kamaru, who was the first African champ was asked what he thought of that statement ahead of his trilogy with Leon Edwards and said, “I understand what he is trying to say but the one thing I think he’s failing to realize is, just because I go to China, and I’m raised in China, doesn’t make me more Chinese than people from China”.
Kamaru then said he use to train with him referring, “you know how I get down”, stating that it felt “personal” what he said because they know eachother.
It seems these two could fight for the African Identitiy they are warring over on African soil, as Dricus stated, to show who is the real African.
If Kamaru wants to build his career back with a little hype to propel him, this would be the best path for him, then make a run at 185 belt as he had wanted to do prior.
