The newly crowned UFC light heavyweight (205lbs) champion Jamahal Hill sat down with the Schmo and discussed some of his potential next title defenses.
Among them he spoke about meeting former UFC light heavyweight champ Jiri Prochazka and how they were cordial, shook hands and went about their business at the UFC PI in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Hill expressed how he hoped Jiri would be his first title defense but insisted that he just hoped he got better and healed up so they could do it when he is healthy.
Prochazka who suffered in the words of Dana White “the worst shoulder injury he ever saw” had to pull out of his his rematch scheduled for UFC 282 , first title defense and relinquish the belt.
Hill also dispelled Magomed Ankalaev who fought Jan Blachowicz December 10th, 2022 at UFC 282 to a draw, claiming he needs to win one more before he can get a title shot.
Alex Pereira, the UFC middleweight champ, who seemed like he was looking to fight Hill, moving up a division in a match to avenge the loss of his mentor Glover Teixeira which had some buzz in the MMA community but “nothing doing” as Jon Anik says.
Hill beat Teixeira at UFC 283: Brazil on January 21st of this year by unanimous decision.
But Hill shot down those rumours quickly saying,
“he should probably focus on Izzy because he was getting his ass whooped for a good majority of that fight last time. Which, where was that same quick stop energy at when I was on his boy [Glover]? That was the same ref right, Marc Goddard?”.
Maybe Jamahal Hill is in favour of bringing back Steve Mazzagatti.
But Hill continued saying he doesnt’t think that Pereira is going to beat Israel Adesanya in their 4th meeting (second in the octagon), and Alex Pereira’s first title defense.
Advising the former middleweight champ to just outbox Pereira and he will win.
