Here are top 3 reasons why Daniel Cormier needs to be an MMA judge.
1. Olympic Level Wrestling
It seems that the judges have a very hard time understanding grappling exchanges, or they are like most fans who find that “huggin stuff” boring.
Cormier would be the perfect judge to determine what a takedown was, who controlled who, and a deep understanding of a dominant position in grappling exchanges.
–We saw in the Covington vs. Usman rematch that there was a takedown from Covington, but the judges didn’t score it, but Cormier, who has wrestled all his lfe insisted it was.
“Position” meaning when the fighter is on the top or bottom, who is really being controlled and if they are working to advance positions to a more dominant one or a submission (from bottom or top).
Also he will be able to judge if the fighter who utilizes grappling is looking to lay and pray or advance their position.
–Something the judges cannot seem to discern.
The judges who are currently judging MMA bouts come from a boxing background.
—That’s great, but this is mixed martial arts.
Not too mention he was at the 2004 olympics in Athens, Greece placing 4th.
But that isn’t all he knows, he also trained under Javier Mendez at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy), sharpening his hands and feet.
2.Coach Daniel and Daniel Cormier Wrestling Academy
DC who is now a coach at his gym, Daniel Cormier Wrestling Academy, has a deep understanding of fighter psychology. Not only as a coach but as a former fighter and champion.
He is always looking deeper into the match than most, and this is evident from his show DC & RC on ESPN where he interviews and discusses events, and fighter news and his Youtube Channel Daniel Cormier TV.
If you haven’t tuned into a fight breakdowns by him you should as you will gain greater insight into athletes.
This comes from him not only doing, but assisting his wrestling team. Coaching them through the motions and witnessing the ever changing psychology of fighters.
Coupled with his fight career he would be a great judge.

3. Never biased
Only fighters who made it to the highest level, with commentating experience, champ experience and longevity in the sport should be entrusted to do such a position that determines the career of fighters and their livelihood in a fair way.
Additionally, regardless of fighters always finding some trouble with his commentary, Cormier is always keeping it down the middle even when his friends are fighting… He always keeps it professional.
