Gillian Robertson Back In The Winning Column
The always smiling Canadian Gillian “The Savage” Robertson is back in the winning column. But not after a gruesome fight she had to endure.
Robertson, who is 10-7 has had a rocky road when it comes to facing the best women in the flyweight division. Coming off 2 losses and facing Maria Agapova, who is 10-3 , and all but 2 of her wins have come by finish.
The Canadian, who now fights out of Florida did not get this win without some adversity. first round she was getting out-grappled and out-struck. Agapova was landing brutal elbows on her it was looking that she was going to go out but she showed her toughness and stayed in. In the second, Agapova again landing her strikes and out grappling Robertson. Seeming like it was going to go on like this into the third.
It wasn’t until in a grappling exchange in the third round that Robertson got the neck of Agapova. Agapova was fighting to get out of the submission but not with her hands. That is where the fight got stopped. Because of Agapova’s toughness and not willing to tap she spit out her mouth-piece fighting the Rear Naked-Choke and biting her tongue, and then was out to sleep in a brutal fashion.
