Here is our list of top 5 ways Masvidal is not taking full advantage of his fighting career.
He currently has one of the biggest money making contracts in the UFC behind Conor McGregor and Israel Adesanya but rarely fights. Most fighters in his position capitalize on this and try to make the biggest fights possible, but Masvidal, after being offered many big fights against guys such as Gilbert Burns and Michael Chandler, as well as the many other fighters that are calling him out, he seems to dismiss them as not worthy gracing the octagon with him.
Regardless of what you want to believe, Jorge Masvidal is a current title holder, and the BMF is as prestigous as any other belt. Why? Because it was given to him, and put on the line by the promotion just as any belt, and it is not divisional. Which in theory, if contested would create a lineage.
Which brings us to the next thing. Why hasn’t it been defended?
We could go on and on with the amount of fighters who have called out Masvidal and demanded that he put up the title up. Wonderboy, Holland, Chandler, Luque, Burns, Covington, Usman etc etc. We really could go on and on, but it would be a waste of space. This belt could potentially create fights, title fights that create buzz and money for all those involved.
Fighters are technically business partners in a sense if done right.
If you think contracts like Jorge Masvidal’s are just given out to any fighter. They aren’t! They are given to fighters who bring eyes on the sport, sell PPV and bring views. Look at some of his UFC Embedded videos when he fights, or the amount of PPV’s he sold in his last fights. Not too mention he gets a piece of the PPV money. Plus, he signed his new contract this year!
While Masvidals name will always make headlines because he is a superstar in the UFC and one of the biggest names forsure, it seems as of late the fans haven’t been too much on his side when it comes to anything he does. Colby, who was suppose to be the badguy who talks about peoples families and the “snitch” in the whole sucker punch situation, was ultimately seen as the “good guy”.
Not too mention with every fight that he is turning down it seems he is falling more and more out of touch with the fans.
Below are some comments from disappointed fans. We picked the nicest ones!!!
He is currently on a three fight losing streak, the promotion, in certain circumstances has cut fighters after three losses. Masvidal, who turned 38 this November does not have a lot of time in his career to be sitting on the sidelines at the end of it.
This is what he was complaining about years ago in the media. He should capitalize on this!
Plus losing to the then number 1 contender, Colby, then twice to the former champion Kamaru Usman, of whom will get the next title shot, and having had two previous shots at it, will be lucky if Leon Edwards gives him another, due to their past beef.
